Lynn's Cultural Revolution!

"Abandon all ties with modern society, ye who enter here"

WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, somewhere in the early 1970s, decided to create our own Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451 in a culture devoted to nonstop sensual stimulation.

The majority of Americans run on television, caffeine, sports, rock music, SUVs, continuing education and excruciatingly demanding jobs that rob us of our power to think, to feel, to reflect.

Our lives no longer belong to us, to our inner selves.

There is no sense of the artistic soul of creativity. Reading matter is reduced to newspapers, romance novels, how-to books and Instruction Manuals "for Dummies". Conversation is limited to what TV shows we watch, what our children/pets do or did, and places we go to or things we do for further stimulation. The arts have been reduced to background scenery or sound for selling vehicles, floor scrubbers or airline tickets on TV. No one I know sits on the front porch with family or neighbors discussing the meaning of life, politics, culture or art any more.

I see a lot of ads on TV and billboards telling people to "express themselves," to "be who you really are," but time and again such ads present the stereotypical image of the Goth girl or hip-hopper, which is to say, the current norm in society today.

This site is a refuge from all that.  It is devoted to matters of the heart and mind, to great music, art, books, and poetry. It is devoted to a philosophy of life beyond the mundane world and a free exchange of ideas as a means of preserving the little bit of culture we have left to us. It embraces cultural diversity rather than a "one-size-fits-all" formula. It reaches out to all those who value the mind, the heart, and a free exchange of ideas. It will feature my own writing and art, but also provide links to other great sites where you can pursue a like-minded dream.

Visitors are more than welcome to write me at lynn_bayley@hotmail.com to discuss what is written here, and to join our revolution!
